Breedon’s Experience with TEC’s Modified 40ft High Performance Storage Bitutainer™
TEC Container Solutions recently worked with Breedon to supply a unique 40ft High Performance Storage Bitutainer™ to phase out their existing tank which had come to the end of its service life. As a leading construction materials group, Breedon required a replacement tank with exceptional thermal insulation to support their asphalt production. To address these requirements, TEC developed a tank that optimises thermal performance, whilst also ensuring it was easy to install, removing the need for extensive civil works.
Project Overview
Breedon produces asphalt using a hands-on approach, shovelling different grit sizes into a mixer while controlling the bitumen supply from storage tanks. To ensure efficient production, they needed a tank to replace their previous storage tank that was nearing the end of its service life. The replacement needed to maintain the bitumen at the optimal temperature with minimal energy loss, even during overnight shutdowns. The modified Storage Bitutainer™ was supplied to enhance their storage capabilities and ensure consistent, high-quality output.
The Solution
TEC worked closely with Breedon to design a tank that met their specific needs. The key feature of this unique High-Performance Storage Bitutainer™ is its 250mm thick insulation and multiple heat sink reductions compared to a standard tank. This insulation ensures optimal heat retention, minimising the need for constant reheating and reducing energy consumption.

Performance and heat retention
During the site visit, TEC engineers gathered data on the tank’s thermal performance. The tank demonstrated superior heat retention, with minimal heat loss even during overnight shutdowns. When comparing the performance of this tank to others on site, Breedon’s team confirmed it was the most efficient in terms of maintaining temperature, allowing for seamless operation the following day with no need for extended reheating periods.
